REPO Review & Buyer's Guide (Early Access)

The Gist

A chaotic co-op game that's way more fun with friends. Solo players might get bored quickly.

  • Price: About $6 USD
  • Players: 1-6 (sweet spot is 3-6)
  • Genre: Co-op exploration + physics comedy + light horror
  • Status: Early Access, still updating

What You Need to Know

Released in late February 2025 by a three-person team. No matchmaking system - you'll need friends to play with.

  • Release: Feb 26, 2025 on Steam (Early Access)
  • Developer: Three-person indie team (comedy/absurdist roots)
  • Multiplayer: No matchmaking, private lobbies only
  • Languages: English only for now

No matchmaking means you need friends to play with. Random lobby fans should probably wait.

How It Works

Each round has a money target. You explore, grab valuable stuff, and haul it back to sell before time runs out. Miss the target and everyone gets "fired" (aka dies horribly).

Sounds simple, but here's the catch:

  • Monsters are trying to kill you
  • Weird items cause chaos
  • Your teammates are probably worse than the monsters

With friends: It's all about the hilarious disasters and clutch saves.
Solo: More like a tense horror game with resource management.

Why It's Actually Fun

The whole point is that things go wrong in ridiculous ways.

Take the glowing hand - it's supposed to be a flashlight, but someone will definitely use it to blind their teammates. The time hourglass makes everything slow-motion, which looks hilarious when someone's trying to escape a monster. And don't even get me started on the random potions that do... things.

The character animations are wonderfully janky too. Everyone looks like a confused potato, which just adds to the charm.

Real talk: your teammates are the real enemy.

Is There Enough Content?

It's Early Access, so don't expect hundreds of hours of content. The item and monster variety is decent, but this isn't a massive game.

The fun comes from playing with different groups of friends - each session creates its own disasters. Swap out your teammates and it's basically a different game.

For solo players, the atmosphere is good but content is definitely limited.

Should You Buy It?

Buy Now If:

  • You have a regular gaming group
  • You loved Lethal Company's social chaos
  • Early Access bugs don't bother you

Maybe Wait If:

  • You mainly play solo
  • You need matchmaking for quick games
  • You hate when "failure is the fun part"

Online & Mods

Friends-only lobbies, no matchmaking. Definitely use voice chat or you're missing half the experience.

There are already mods to increase lobby size, but your mileage may vary on stability.

Worth the Money?

At $6, it's a no-brainer if you have friends to play with. A few hours of laughing until your sides hurt pays for itself.

Solo players should probably wait for a sale or more content updates.

The Risks

Standard Early Access stuff - bugs, balance issues, features changing. The small team seems pretty active though, and if they keep adding items and scenarios, this could get really good.

Bottom Line

REPO is all about playing with friends.

Want to laugh until you cry at your friends' spectacular failures? Buy it now. Want deep single-player content or matchmaking? Wait it out.

It's only $6 anyway - pretty low risk to try it.
