Huntsman
The Huntsman stands apart from other monsters because it hunts almost entirely by sound. The official wiki notes that only this Level 3 predator is truly sound‑based—its hearing range is roughly five times that of other monsters. Crouching, moving slowly and minimising noise are therefore essential when facing the Huntsman.
Behaviour
- Hyper‑sensitive hearing: Footsteps, dropped items and voice chat will draw the Huntsman’s attention. Even far‑away noises can trigger it.
- Sound resets its patrol: Making noise will cause the Huntsman to investigate and can reset respawn timers for other creatures.
- Physical detection: While mostly deaf to light, it may detect players through bumps or direct contact if you get too close.
Strategies
- Move silently: Walk instead of running, avoid slamming doors and keep your cart light. Crouching further reduces your noise profile.
- Manage inventory: Heavy or noisy items like bottles will clatter if dropped. Secure them before moving or pass them to teammates.
- Use distractions: You can throw an item away from your group to lure the Huntsman. Because it tracks sound, this will buy you time to slip past.
- Hide and wait: When the Huntsman approaches, find cover and stay still. It will wander past if no further noise is made.
- Team coordination: Communicate via low volume or pings to avoid giving away your location. Assign one player to carry noise‑making items and bait the Huntsman while others loot.
